Hi there, as I re-call the Christchurch ‘punk/new wave scene’ (a broad term I appreciate) splintered into two factions around that period. You had the old established bands that began exploring other musical directions. Enter bands like The Newtons, Mainly Spaniards, Pin Group etc. You also had the hardcore punks and accompanying boot-boys who flourished on a doctrine of mayhem and confrontation. Plus a hated of all other forms of musical expression. The one time I saw The Johnnies I remember the crowd to be full of teenage punks that missed the first wave, boot-boys spoiling for agro, beer bottles smashed on the floor & a now dysfunctional toilet. I left early that night.
In one piece. Check-out my blog page eh. I’m running an online radio station playing 100% alternative NZ Music from the past 30 years.
